STRATEGY PLANNING SESSION

A structured process to define your clear path forward.

This is the session you book when you know something needs to change—but you’re not quite sure what, or where to start.

You might have too many ideas and can’t decide which one to run with, or not enough ideas and need help finding the right direction. It could be a new initiative, a change in your store, or a problem that you just can’t quite get a handle on.

This session is about getting clarity and a plan in place so you can move forward with confidence.

Why this matters

It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and spend time (and money) on things that don’t move your business forward.

A clear plan helps you:

  • Stay focused on what matters.

  • Avoid wasting time on the wrong things.

  • Make better decisions, faster.

Think of it like planning a road trip. You wouldn’t just jump in the car and hope for the best, you’d have a rough plan of where you’re going, what you want to see, and how you’re going to get there.

Your business is no different.

Key Benefits of Strategic Planning

As your consultant, I’ll guide you through the process of creating your Strategic Action Plan but, more importantly, this is about helping you avoid the things that cost you time, money and momentum.

A good plan doesn’t just tell you what to do. It helps you avoid doing the wrong things.

  • Save money by preventing costly mistakes: When you properly think things through upfront, you can spot problems before they happen. That means fewer expensive detours, and less money spent on ideas, marketing or changes that don’t actually move your business forward.

  • Prioritise your goals: Most business owners have a long list of ideas but limited time and resources. This process helps you prioritise the ones that will give you the best return, rather than spreading yourself too thin.

  • Get there faster: A clear plan breaks big ideas into manageable steps. Instead of second-guessing your next move, you know exactly what needs to happen and in what order.

  • Make better use of your time and budget: We look at what you already have - your time, your team, your budget - and make sure it’s being used in the most effective way. No overcommitting, no burnout, no wasted effort.

  • Understand what sets you apart: We’ll define what makes your business different (your unique selling proposition - UPS) and how to use that to your advantage to reduce the need to compete on price or do what everyone else is doing.

  • Get everyone on the same page: If you have a team, this gives them clarity too. Everyone understands the direction, what matters most, and what they should be focusing on.

What You’ll Walk Away With:

By the end of our session, you’ll have:

  • Clear, focused goals.

  • A set of practical strategies to achieve them.

  • A prioritised plan of what to do first (and what can wait).

  • Confidence that you’re heading in the right direction.

This becomes your Strategic Action Plan (SAP)—something you can actually use, not just a document that sits in a drawer.

Every minute spent in strategic planning saves many in execution. Just like painting, it’s the preparation that makes the final outcome easy and successful.

What’s involved?

Step 1: Discovery Call

We start with a 15-minute chat. No obligation.

You’ll tell me what you’re looking to achieve, and I’ll let you know how I can help. From there, we’ll decide if this is the right fit and what the scope looks like.

Step 2: Preparation (yes, a little bit of homework)

I’ll send you a short set of questions tailored to your situation.

This helps me understand where your business is now, what you’re wanting to achieve, and what resources you have to work with. This is so we can make the most of our time together.

Step 3: The Session

This is where we get stuck in.

We’ll define clear objectives, explore your options, and build your Strategic Action Plan together focusing on the ideas that will give you the best return and the biggest impact.

We'll work together to generate a range of strategies to achieve your objectives. We'll then discuss the value of each one and prioritise those that will give you the best results. Your input is essential, as you know your business and its capacity better than anyone but what I come with is broad ranging experience and knowledge and ideas that you might never have considered. Combined, this ensures the final Strategic Action Plan is both practical and effective.

Step 4: After the Session

You’ll leave with your Strategic Action Plan, and I’ll be available via email if you need a bit of extra input as you start putting it into action. And, if you need follow up meetings to touch base or seek clarification, I will be there for that as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Don’t you hate it when people answer that question with, ‘That depends’? But, that depends.

We would start with about two hours but depending on your needs and how much input you need from me, it could be a further two or three meetings. Or, one meeting might be enough.

Let’s have a chat to see what your goals are and we can create a scope of work from there.

  • Absolutely! Prior to beginning, we will both sign a confidentiality document.

By signing this document, I agree to keep all discussions, data, initiatives and results confidential and will not share with any other party unless you give me permission or request it.

At the same time, you will agree to not share any of the documents, templates or specific stategies that I give you with other third parties outside your company or business advisors. I’m sure you will understand that what I provide is the intellectual property of The Retail Toolkit and we like to keep that for those that we work with, such as yourself.

Please see our Privacy Policy for more information.

  • This will be outlined in the scope of work however, in general:

    • A 20% deposit is paid at the time when you sign the Service Agreement and agreed to the scope of work.

    • The remaining amount is paid in equal installments throughout our time working together.

    • Please see our Terms & Conditions for more information.
